In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with(in) God,
And the WORD was God.
Many believe that to study the Word is to simply READ it and believe it. But the Bible says to “Study to show thyself approved unto God, a workman that needeth not to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth”. ~ 2 Timothy 2:15
Study is the application of the mind to the acquisition of knowledge, as by reading, investigation, or reflection;
Divide is to separate into parts, groups, sections, etc.;
Investigate is synonymous to scrutiny, exploration, examination, inquiry, research expressing the idea of an active effort to find out something;
Reflection is a calm, lengthy, intent consideration;
2 Timothy 2:15 is an invitation to TEST the doctrine for validity and TRUTH. Dividing it however you need, to gain an understanding. Scrutinize it, Explore it, Examine it, Inquire about it, Research it and Reflect on your findings. One separates in order to examine the nature, the differences in the parts; to simplify, so as to understand the core, the heart; to understand the workings, the meaning and the function. As we seek, we find bits and pieces of our SOURCE. Then we put them together to gather the meaning, the relationship of the parts, the full story, the TRUTH, the WORD, GOD. And then weigh the premise and our findings against the following to determine its validity, truthfullness and soundness.
1. They are not in conflict with what we know or understand to be true.
2. They do not require us to believe or accept other unsupported elements that are in conflict with what we know or understand to be true.
3. They bear the proper burden of proof.
It is important that I point out the fact that validity does not always render a premise or statement true, as in a court case or any other argument. But, when it comes to issues of the heart or spirituality, validity and therefore truth is based upon an individual’s life experiences and how they make sense of its relationship to others, to the whole, the ONE, GOD. If what we discover in the physical (in writing and otherwise) bears witness to what we know and understand; what we believe; and bears witness with our Spirit, then it is valid and true to us. Of course, one person’s truth maybe different from another’s as the ways and timing of our spiritual develop is diverse. But, the truth of the Word; the truth of God, is a consistent concept, pattern of wisdom that is universal. God’s Word created a universe and all therein! God’s Word is for all. No man is an island. We are One!
Just as the Word (God) pierces and divides asunder the soul and the spirit in order to discern, to perceive, to detect the thoughts and intents of our hearts, it penetrates all doctrines of belief, all cultures and people, because we share a common vein, a common Spirit, a common CREATOR. ~ Hebrews 4:12 Be not ashamed to study and rightly divide the Word. Seek Truth, without fear of falling away from GOD because Isaiah 55:11 says, “So shall my word be that goeth forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing whereto I sent it. You are the Word, the creation of God. He has sent you forth and you shall not return unto him void. You shall return unto him, having accomplished that which pleases him, that which he sent you to do. Therefore, seek TRUTH, seek GOD, with your whole heart. ~ Psalms 119:10
God’s ultimate desire is that we, his creation, return unto him; not by flesh, but by our spirit. Sincerely seeking TRUTH is all that is required to find GOD. It seems that God understands that we learn and understand through our experiences; by proof, discovering the validity of all that Is and our relationship to it. We seek what we long for and that is TRUTH, an understanding of what is, why and how. And along the way we find SELF, we discover who we are according to the prompting of God’s Divine Design for our lives.
Discovering TRUTH, the true Word of God, Wisdom is the principal thing. Proverbs 4:7 says, Wisdom is the principal thing; get wisdom: and with all thy getting get understanding.
Therefore, seek God with your whole heart. Study the Word, not just reading it. Know that TRUTH IS A VEIN THAT KNOWS NO, ONE PERSON, PLACE, CULTURE OR DOCTRINE. TRUTH IS UNIVERSAL. TEST ALL DOCTRINE AGAINST ONE ANOTHER TO FIND THE COMMON VEIN. IT MAY LOOK DIFFERENT, SOUND DIFFERENT, BUT THAT COMMON VEIN CARRIES TRUTH, HIDDEN FOR THE TRUE WORKMAN, SEEKER OF THE WORD (GOD).
